What Are Airframe Control Bearings?

Airframe control bearings are precision components used in movable flight control systems of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. They support oscillating, pivoting, and limited rotation in linkages, actuators, bell cranks, flap assemblies, and stabilizers while tolerating extreme loads, vibration, and environmental exposure.

Design Purpose

  • Manage repetitive oscillatory motion
  • Minimize backlash in control systems
  • Provide high misalignment capability
  • Operate in extreme environments (temperature, fluids, G-loads)
  • Ensure predictable torque behavior and low friction over the service life
